A large-scale search involving gardaí, civil defence and rescue teams was under way in Killarney, Co Kerry, yesterday for a 35-year-old woman missing since Friday.
The woman, an English national living near Killarney, had been in Tralee earlier on Friday. Her car, a red Volkswagen Golf, was found on the Bothairín na Marbh road, in an area overlooking the lakes of Killarney alongside the cemetery at Aghadoe, on Sunday morning.
Described as 5ft 6in in height, with short brown curly hair, when last seen she was wearing a fur-trimmed coat, dark trousers and boots. Gardaí would not release her name or a photograph yesterday. However, they said they and her family were very concerned about her welfare.
The Killarney water rescue unit was conducting a search of the lower lake and of water courses and Kerry Mountain Rescue was on standby to assist Civil Defence personnel and the Garda in difficult terrain.
