A Garda sergeant remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital after he was shot in Crumlin, Dublin, yesterday morning.
He sustained injuries to his arm and chest after being hit in the drive-by shooting while on duty outside a house in Crumlin.
A number of shots had been fired at the house earlier yesterday, and the sergeant was one of a number of gardaí at the scene when the car pulled up outside.
Two males, including a 16-year-old, were arrested in Drimnagh after a car chase during which a van driver was threatened with a shotgun after he repelled an attempt to hijack his vehicle.
The two suspects are being questioned at Crumlin and Sundrive Road Garda stations.
They are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be detained for up to 72 hours.
