THE Dublin house fire in which a man in his 60s died yesterday appears to have been started by a cigarette, according to the Garda. Mr William Lynch's body was found in his one bedroom flat in St Mary's Mansions off Gardiner Street at around 11 a.m. Neighbours entered the flat after they saw smoke coming from a front window which had shattered due to the heat and they called the fire brigade.
Mr Lynch, who lived alone, was found lying on a couch which gardai say had been smouldering for some time. A neighbour, Mr James Coughlan, said Mr Lynch suffered from epilepsy and had lived in the flat for about 10 years.
