Gardai investigating the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Cork on April 25th have asked for help in tracing a number of people. Yesterday, Supt P.J. Brennan, who is heading the investigation, said they wished to hear from a number of people. These include: "The driver of a pale green car which stopped at the St Luke's Cross area of the city to allow pedestrians to cross the road; an elderly lady wearing a green raincoat and plastic head dress who was walking in the Gardiner's Hill area; a female who was walking in the same direction and is described as being in her late teens, wearing a black shiny jacket; and a male wearing a black money bag (bumbag) who was of strong build, approximately 6ft tall with short cut hair. He was wearing denim jeans with a dark coloured top."
??????i in Cork had interviewed the occupants of almost 500 homes. He reiterated and that everything that could be done would be done to bring the rapist to justice. and that as far as the Cork Garda authorities were concerned all the procedures used in a major murder hunt were being employed.
Supt Brennan said the attack occurred between 6.20 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. in the St Luke's/Gardiner's Hill/Gillen's Cross area of the city. The girl was playing with her six-year-old sister when a man approached them during a heavy shower, offering ice cream. The girls ran away but the man followed them and caught the eight-year-old and raped her.
