Gardaí in Dublin have issued an appeal for witnesses after a man was found with serious injuries on waste ground on the banks of the Royal Canal at the rear of Shandon Park in the city yesterday.
The man, in his twenties, was taken to the Mater Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The area was sealed off for a technical examination.
Anyone who witnessed the assault or who noticed anything unusual or suspicious in the area between 9am and 3.30pm yesterday is asked to contact Mountjoy garda station on 01-6668600 or the Garda confidential telephone line on 1800 666 111.
