Gardai were called by a newspaper reporter to the wedding of Ms Bernadette Sands, the vice-chairwoman of the 32-County Sovereignty Movement, and Mr Michael McKevitt, her longtime partner, in Knockbridge, Co Louth yesterday.

Barry O'Kelly of the Star called in gardai, alleging that several men had locked two photographers into their car, taken their cameras and destroyed the films. When the gardai arrived the keys were returned. There were no arrests.

Ms Sands is a sister of Bobby Sands, who died while on hunger strike in the Maze in 1981. Mr McKevitt is the father of her three children. It was his third marriage.
