A number of suspects are being questioned about the murder of a Limerick barman, Mr Noel Pyper (48), last week. Although no arrests have been made, gardai believe they will solve the case.
A Garda spokesman said that early yesterday morning, a week after the killing, detectives carried out a questionnaire on people leaving bars, houses and businesses in the O'Connell Street and Newenham Street area of Limerick city.
Gardai hope the questionnaire will reveal new information and believed the best time to carry it out was on the same night of the week as the murder.
"We are putting the information together and are trying to get people whom we have not spoken to yet," said the spokesman.
Gardai at Henry Street station are satisfied that robbery was the motive for the death of the Macroom, Co Cork-born barman, who worked at Noel's Pub on Catherine Street, Limerick. He was beaten to death on his way home from work and his body was found in Lonergan's Lane, hidden behind "wheelie" bins.
His last movements have been traced from videos located on businesses on O'Connell Street. After leaving Noel's Pub, he went to the Chicken Hut, leaving it at 12.38 a.m. He died within an hour.
Gardai are trying to establish what happened after he left the food outlet. Shouts were heard in the Newenham Street area at 1.40 a.m. and gardai believe these may be connected to the attack.
There is understood to be 12 suspects whose movements are being checked out. Gardai say they are confident of catching the killer or killers.
