Gardai fear the missing man who is at the centre of the largest postering and publicity campaign seen in Dublin may have drowned.

The search for Mr Trevor Deely has involved the draining of a stretch of the Grand Canal between Leeson Street and the Grand Canal Basin at Ringsend on two occasions, as well as a search by Garda sub-aqua divers of the River Dodder.

Mr Deely (22) was making his way home from the centre of Dublin some time after 4 a.m. on December 8th when he disappeared. There were high winds and heavy rain at the time.

The last sighting of him is at an ATM machine at the corner of Haddington Road and Baggot Street at around 4.15 a.m. This would suggest he had crossed the canal and was heading towards Ballsbridge to his apartment in Serpentine Avenue.

It is now feared he may have been blown into the Dodder River, which was in flood at the time. There has been an unprecedented publicity campaign for information about the missing man mounted by his family, friends and businesses.

Most commercial premises in Dublin have carried fly posters and a new poster campaign, with house-to-house flyers, is to be launched this weekend. Mr Deely is described as 6 feet 2 inches, of slim build with short red/blond hair and green eyes. When last seen he was wearing a yellow and brown shirt and beige cord trousers.
