Two gardaí were shot at and their patrol car rammed by four men, including one teenager, in a violent car chase through Dublin on Saturday night.

Kilmainham gardaí patrolling the Bluebell area of Inchicore, in the south-west of the city noticed a car acting suspiciously with four men inside at 11.40 p.m.

The two gardaí followed the car and tried to stop it but the driver rammed the Garda patrol car several times.

One of the men then aimed a pump-action shotgun at the patrol car and fired three shots, which hit the car.

Neither of the gardaí was hit and continued to pursue the car.

Other Garda cars also joined the pursuit.

The men eventually abandoned their car outside a block of flats on Bluebell Road and fled. However, gardaí detained two men aged 18 and 22 years of age.

A shotgun was recovered from the abandoned car. The men were arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.

They are being held for questioning about the incident and may be kept for up to 48 hours before they are released or charged.
