GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the murder of a Dublin teenager nine years ago have received new information that has been described as “very significant” to their inquiry following an appeal to the public at the weekend.
Seventeen-year-old Raonaid Murray from Glenageary, Dublin, was stabbed to death just yards from her home.
Her body was discovered at Silchester Crescent, Glenageary, in the early hours of September 4th, 1999.
The last definite sighting of the teenager was of her leaving Scotts pub in Dún Laoghaire at 11.20pm on September 3rd.
Det Insp Eamon O’Reilly of Dún Laoghaire Garda station said yesterday gardaí had received a number of calls over the last few days as a result of their appeal to the public for information and that “new names are coming up”.
“Items of information that have never been disclosed before have emerged as a result of the calls,” said Insp O’Reilly after a “for mention” hearing of the inquest into Ms Murray’s death at Dublin County Coroner’s Court yesterday.
“It’s very significant and we’re delighted with the response,” he said.
Insp O’Reilly earlier applied for an adjournment of the inquest into Ms Murray’s death under Section 25.1 of the Coroner’s Act 1962.
He told the coroner, Dr Kieran Geraghty, that a criminal murder inquiry was ongoing. The coroner granted the application and adjourned the inquest until a date in July 2009 for further mention.
