Gardaí said today they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting deaths of a farmer and his wife in their Co Roscommon home yesterday evening.
The couple, who have been formally identified as Brian and Ann Flynn, both 58 years old, were found dead in their house in Donamon, near Athleague.
Their bodies were found by their son when he called to his parents home at about 7.00 p.m. yesterday.
Garda Inspector Paul Glynn said today the couple had died from violent injuries. Mrs Flynn's body was found slumped in the kitchen, while her husband's was lying in the hallway. A shotgun was found beside Mr Flynn.
Gardaí are not seeking anyone else in relation to the deaths, Inspector Glynn said.
"It is highly unlikely that we will be looking for a third party in this," he said. "It appears that something happened in the house and that both of them died. Nobody else appears to have been involved."
The scene was sealed off for examination and a post-mortem is being carried out today by Deputy State Pathologist Dr David Gilsenan.
The couple had one daughter and two sons, in their 20s and 30s. Mr Flynn ran a small farm as well as working part-time as a bouncer in a local hotel and with a local construction firm.
