Gardaí in Co Tipperary are investigating a number of suspicious fires in Clonmel, one of which led to the death of a woman this morning.
Gardaí and the fire brigade were called to a house fire in Elm Park, Clonmel, around 5.30am. A woman, believed to be in her fifties died in the fire, and her husband escaped from the back of the house.
He is believed to have suffered a broken ankle after jumping from an upstairs window.
A car parked in front of the house was destroyed. It is believed the fire started in a wheelie bin and spread to the car, which exploded causing the fire to spread to the house.
Gardaí have sealed off the scene and are treating the incident as suspicious. The State Pathologist has been contacted.
A number of other fires occurred this morning in wheelie bins and other objects in the Elm Park area. Gardaí said they had identified four crime scenes.
