Gardaí are investigating the death of a Brazilian man whose body was found in suspicious circumstances in north Cork.
The body of the man (47) was found in a flat on the main street of Charleville shortly before 10pm last night.
The man, who has been named locally as Alberto Do Prado Olievera, had been living in the town for the past two-and-a-half years.
His wife, who was resident in the area for the past four months, is being comforted by friends from the Brazilian community.
Father Sean Lawlor, a priest in Charleville, said: "It is a shocking episode . . . he was a very peace abiding man and very well known among the Brazilians."
Officers have spoken with four other Brazilian nationals who were in the apartment when they were called to the scene last night.
A postmortem is to be carried out. Gardaí said the scene was sealed off for a technical examination.
