Gardaí are investigating the fatal overnight shooting of a man in north Dublin. The incident occurred at Casement Park in Finglas around 4am.
The crime scene has been preserved pending a full technical examination by forensic officers. The name of the dead man has not yet been released by gardaí.
Labour Party TD for Dublin North West Róisin Shortall called for "a concerted effort" from the Government and gardaí to clamp down on gang violence.
"What is particularly disturbing in relation to killings of this type - many of them fuelled by the drugs trade - is that the conviction rate for gun murders over the past ten years has been around 16%. In other words the killers have only around a one in six chance of being arrested and brought to justice," she said in a statement.
Meanwhile, a 21 year-old man was seriously injured after he was shot in the Island Field area of Limerick city in the early hours of this morning.
He was admitted to Mid-West Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Gardaí from Henry Street Station arrested a man in his 20s shortly after the shooting.
The arrested man is currently detained at Henry Street Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
