Gardaí investigating a hit and run incident in Cork city centre have begun studying CCTV footage in a bid to try and identify the driver of the car involved.
The incident happened at about 3.45am this morning when a 27-year-old man was hit by a car on the side street leading to St Peter and Paul's Church off Patrick Street.
The young man who is from Cork city suffered injuries to his back and was rushed by an ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he was this morning undergoing assessment.
Meanwhile the driver of the car involved in the incident abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot and gardaí today began studying CCTV footage to try and identify him.
They are also trying to establish the ownership of the car which was later removed to allow garda technical experts carry out a forensic examination of the vehicle
The street was closed off by gardai to allow a forensic crash investigator carry out an examination of the scene which was completed earlier this morning.
