Gardaí have issued a warning about extreme flash flooding in many areas of north and west Dublin.

A large number of roads are impassable, including the N3 Navan Road outbound as far as the Blanchardstown shopping centre, the M50 between the Finglas and Ballymun exits and the Port Tunnel.

Blackhorse Avenue, Collins Avenue, Botanic Avenue, Kylemore Road and the Chapelizod Bypass have been badly hit.

Traffic is also badly disrupted or blocked on the Navan Road roundabout between Blanchardstown and Clonee and the N4 outbound at Palmerstown.

Garda diversions are currently in place around many parts of the capital due to severe flooding and long delays are to be expected.

Buses are not running along Sarsfield Road due to flooding, while flooding is also reported around Dundrum Town Centre, Lucan and Celbridge.

DART services are suspended between Malahide and Howth junctions due to flooding and there is significant disruption to Northern Commuter and Belfast Rail services.
