Gardai have named the diver who drowned in Dun Laoghaire harbour last night.

Damian Byrne (24) from Cabinteely Court, Cabinteely, Co Dublin got into difficulties when he became trapped in the vessel he was attempting to salvage at 10.30 last night.

He was brought to the surface by fellow divers and taken to shore by the Dun Laoghaire lifeboat, before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital.

Gardai have also officially named the seven-year-old boy who drowned in Balbriggan, Co Dublin yesterday morning.

Karl Moore from Inbhir Ide, Malahide, Co Dublin, had been reported missing at 9.45 a.m. from a relative's home in Balbriggan and his body was found at 10.50 a.m. on Balbriggan beach. Foul play is not suspected. A post mortem examination is to be carried out on Monday.
