Gardaí have opened a murder inquiry following the discovery yesterday of a body in a Dublin park.

The body of a man was found in St Anne's Park, Raheny in Dublin yesterday.

He has been named by gardaí as Anthony Jenkinson (29) of Mount Olive Road, Kilbarrack.

The discovery was made at about 10.30 a.m. by a local man out walking his dog.

Results from a post-mortem show the man was severely beaten and suffered a fractured skull.

Gardaí are appealing for information in relation to the man's death. He is described as being 5'9, of slim build with light brown short hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt, cream trousers, black boots and white socks. He was also wearing a fake brown leather jacket.

Mr Jenkinson was freed in February after serving part of a nine-year sentence for the attempted robbery in 1997 of a suburban post office.

He was sentenced in February 1999 after being found guilty by a jury some weeks earlier of false imprisonment of a security guard, burglary and causing criminal damage at Kilbarrack Shopping Centre on March 22th, 1997.

The Court of Criminal Appeal quashed that conviction and sentence and ordered a retrial. During the retrial Judge Patrick McCartan was told the DPP had directed that a nolle prosequishould be entered and freed Mr Jenkinson.
