A man was being questioned by gardai after he was arrested following a high-speed pursuit across two counties.

A man was being questioned by gardai after he was arrested following a high-speed pursuit across two counties.

The man, believed to be from Dublin, was detained in Roscommon Garda Station in connection with an attempted robbery at a house near Strokestown, in the county. He was arrested following a high-speed pursuit across counties Roscommon and Longford.

Gardai are continuing to search for a second man, believed to be in his 20s, following the attempted break-in.

It is believed the burglars were confronted yesterday by the son of the homeowner at around midday. A high-speed chase followed with Gardai from Longford, Lanesboro and Roscommon involved.

It is believed the robbers abandoned their car near Lanesboro and made off on foot. At one stage the Gardai's Air Support Unit were also involved along with officers from Carrick-on-Shannon.
