GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the fatal stabbing of a fifth-year student at the weekend were last night questioning a second teenager in connection with the killing.
It is understood the 19-year-old, who is from the Corbally area of Limerick, was present at the house where Roman Vysochan (16) was stabbed on Saturday night.
Yesterday afternoon detectives confirmed they were looking to speak with him and shortly before 7pm he was arrested and taken to Mayorstone Garda station for questioning.
The removal of Roman Vysochan, who was originally from Ukraine, will take place this evening at 7.30pm. His funeral Mass will be held at St Nicholas' Church in Westbury at 11am tomorrow.
Last night's arrest was made a number of hours after a 16-year-old boy, who was detained on Sunday morning, was released without charge. "We have been in contact with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and a file will be prepared in due course," said a Garda spokesman.
Detectives have also spoken to a number of other teenagers who were in the house at the Carrig Midhe estate on Saturday, including a young boy who was released from hospital yesterday afternoon after he was treated for stab wounds. Investigating gardaí are anxious to establish why two teenagers arrived at the house on Saturday night and what sparked the tragic altercation. "Something serious happened inside that house and it had devastating consequences," said a Garda source.
Meanwhile, shocked schoolmates of Mr Vysochan were being comforted by staff and teachers at St Munchin's College in Corbally yesterday.
Principal Fr Charles Irwin said: "Our prayers and the thoughts of the school community are today with Roman's family. The whole school was shocked to hear of the tragic circumstances of Roman's death over weekend."
