A Dublin man admitted to gardai that he had raped and sexually assaulted his girlfriend's seven-year-old daughter, a jury was told yesterday.
Det Sgt Walter Kilcullen said that during his interviews with them, the accused frequently cried and was distressed. He told gardai he did not know what had come over him to cause him to commit the assaults.
The 33-year-old accused has pleaded not guilty in the Central Criminal Court to a total of nine charges of rape and sexual assault of the girl in 1996 and 1997.
