Gardai today issued a fresh appeal for information over the fatal shooting of Latvian mother of two Baiba Saulite, a year after her killing.

The 28-year-old was gunned down as she stood in the doorway of her home in Holywell Square, Swords, Co Dublin, on November 19 last year.

Her sons - Ali-Alexsandra, five, and Mohamed Rami, three - were asleep in the house at the time of the attack. She was buried in her native Riga in December.

A number of people were arrested and released in connection with the murder, believed to have been a contract killing. However no charges have been brought.

Gardai today appealed for anyone who may have been in the area on that date and saw anything to come forward.

"Gardai from Swords garda station, Dublin, investigating the fatal shooting of Baiba Saulite on November 19 2006 have renewed their appeal for any person with information about the murder or who may have been in the Holywell area of Swords on that night to come forward," a garda spokesman said.

Following the killing, Crimestoppers offered a €10,000 reward for information. It is understood Ms Saulite knew her safety was in danger at the time of her murder.

Threats were also made against her Swords-based solicitor, whose home was petrol-bombed in February last year.
