Gardai are hopeful of making an arrest in their investigation into the murder of the 73-year-old Co Kildare farmer who was found stabbed in his partly-burned thatched cottage on Thursday, writes Jim Cusack, Security Editor.

It is understood a man from the area is being sought for questioning. A post-mortem examination on Mr John Willy Boland showed he was stabbed three times.

An attempt to set fire to the cottage failed. Mr Boland and his brother lived at opposite ends of the building. His brother suffered slight injuries from smoke inhalation.
