Waterford gardaí are still seeking a man believed to have done a botched circumcision operation at the weekend that led to the death of a baby boy.
The child, who was just 29 days old, was circumcised at his home by a man and died at Waterford Regional Hospital a short time later early on Monday morning, having suffered severe blood loss.
Gardaí believe the man may have carried out a number of similar operations onthe same day.
It is thought that other procedures could have taken place in the Dublin areaon Sunday.
A post-mortem was carried out by Dr Margaret Bolster of the State pathologist's office, but the results were inconclusive.
The parents of the baby are Nigerian and are understood to have had him circumcised for religious reasons.
Sgt Padraig Dunne of Waterford Garda station today appealed to the media to allow the family some privacy. "They have had a lot of contact that they do not want," he told ireland.com.Sgt Dunne said the gardaí were not disclosing further details about the inquiry for operational reasons. They are not seeking the help of the public, he said.
Waterford Regional Hospital does not provide male circumcisions on religious or cultural grounds. It is not known whether the parents of the dead baby approached the local health authorities to have the operation carried out.
The Irish College of General Practitioners wrote to the South Eastern Health Board earlier this year expressing concern about the failure to provide such a service in Waterford.
