Drugs with a potential street value of nearly €3 million have been seized by gardaí in Cork and Dublin.

Gardaí in Anglesea Street recovered 100kg of cannabis resin worth €700,000 when a van was stopped and searched in Tower, Blarney, Co Cork, on Saturday morning.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 30s who was the sole occupant, was arrested. He appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court on Saturday night.

In a separate search in Cobh, Co Cork, on Saturday afternoon, a further 250kg of cannabis resin and a kilogramme of cocaine were found.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Dublin found 2kg of cocaine when they searched a flats complex in the inner city at about 8am on Saturday.

It is understood the drugs recovered are worth about €400,000. That raid was also part of an ongoing operation.

A man in his 20s, who is being held at Kevin Street Garda station, is due before Kilmainham District Court this morning, charged with the seizure of the drugs.

Forensic analysis will be carried out on all the drugs recovered over the weekend.
