Gardai hope over the next few days to interview the woman they believe the mother of a baby, born after 36 weeks, whose body was found in a shed in the Wilton area of Cork at the weekend.
The woman, whom gardai would only describe as "young", is currently under medical care.
The baby girl's body was discovered in a sports bag in a shed behind a house in the Wilton Road area of Cork at about 2 p.m. on Sunday. It was found by the owner of the house.
Gardai were called and the body was removed to nearby Cork University Hospital where the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster, carried out a post-mortem.
Supt Michael Bambury, of Togher Garda station, yesterday declined to comment on earlier reports that the baby had suffered head injuries.
i have sealed off the shed for forensic examination by technical experts, said Supt Bambury. He declined to comment on whether the woman believed to be the mother is related to the owner of the house who found the baby's body.
