Gardai treat Kilkenny death as suspicious

Gardai are treating as suspicious the death of a woman whose body was found in Co Kilkenny earlier today.

A passer-by discovered what is understood to be a partially decomposed body near Breanor Bridge, Pilltown, shortly before midday. The area has been preserved for techincal examination.

A Garda spokesman said the state pathologist had visted the scene but could not give any indication as to when a post mortem will be conducted.

He said it's too early to confrim reports the woman was a non-national and said Gardai have no idea at this stage of the person's identity.

It's understood the body could have been at the scene for over a week.
