Considerable traffic delays are expected in the east of the country over the weekend as GAA fans travel to Dublin for the Leinster football final tomorrow and hurling games on Sunday, gardaí have warned.

Traffic delays are also expected in Baltray, Co Louth, where the Golf Irish Open is taking place.

Gardaí in Mullingar say they expect a large number of people to travel to Croke Park tomorrow for the Westmeath v Laois replay.  The game begins at 6.15 p.m. while the minor hurling game between Mayo and Kildare kicks off at the earlier time of 4.15 p.m.

Gardaí have advised motorists to depart in good time as delays are expected in particular at Kinnegad where the N6 and N4 merge. Motorists are being urged to use alternative routes if possible.
