The controversial Drumcree march next July in Co Armagh will be discussed today in Government Buildings when the Taoiseach meets representatives of the Garvaghy Road Residents' Coalition from Portadown, reports Maol Muire Tynan.
The group is expected to meet Mr Ahern this evening following discussions with the Tanaiste, Ms Harney. An Independent councillor, Mr Breandan Mac Cionnaith, said yesterday residents were concerned that the events of recent years on the Garvaghy Road could be repeated in 1998.
"Given the Orange Order's continued refusal to enter into dialogue on the issue of contentious marches and in the absence of any local agreements, we will be urging the Government to ensure that communities such as ours are not subjected to further abuse this year," he said.
