Gateway, the second-largest direct seller of personal computers, today confirmed it intends to cut its Irish workforce of 1,600 by an estimated 10 per cent.
Managing director of Gateway Ireland, Mr Mike Moloney, told ireland.comthe exact number of jobs cuts would not be known until after each business unit had conducted an appraisal and reported back - a process expected to take a couple of weeks.
Yesterday's fourth-quarter results announced by Gateway were well below expectations and as a result the company has opted to reduce its workforce, he added.
Mr Moloney said the job losses would be across the board in all departments and in all of Gateway's European centres.
This latest announcement follows the loss of 475 jobs in Dublin and Mayo yesterday.
