Rome - Italy's most-wanted white-collar fugitive, Licio Gelli (79), was extradited to Italy yesterday to face a 12-year jail sentence for fraud linked to the collapse in 1982 of Banco Ambrosiano. Italian undercover police had tracked him down in Cannes at the beginning of September.
Gelli, the former grandmaster of the outlawed Propaganda Due (P2) Masonic lodge, flew into Rome's Ciampino airport amid tight security, airport authorities reported. Impeccably dressed in a cream-coloured suit, Gelli hobbled down the aircraft steps and was immediately whisked off to Rome's Regina Coeli jail.
