London - Prince Charles yesterday issued a strong attack on genetically-engineered crops, which he criticised for taking mankind into "realms that belong to God, and to God alone".
The prince, who has long held strong ecological beliefs, said he would never eat such produce, nor offer it to his guests or family.
"I personally have no wish to eat anything produced by genetic manipulation, nor do I knowingly offer this sort of produce to my family or guests. There is increasing evidence that a great many people feel the same way," he wrote in an article for the Daily Telegraph. Friends of the Earth said later that thousands of people across the UK agreed with the prince.
