Germany's revised 2003 budget foresees a rise in new borrowing to €18.9 billion, a German government source said today.

The deficit figure will be €3.4 billion higher than the €15.5 billion originally planned for 2003 and up from the €18 billion spelt out in the government coalition deal reached last month, the source said.

The German government plans investment of €26.8 billion, more than the €25.3 billion originally planned - but less than the €29 billion predicted in the coalition deal.

Total government spending will reach €247.9 billion, an increase from the €246.3 billion originally planned, the source said.
