A German company has announced plans to cut the workforce at its plant in the Mayo Gaeltacht by about a quarter.

A German company has announced plans to cut the workforce at its plant in the Mayo Gaeltacht by about a quarter.

Caideil MP Teoranta, which makes appliances for the cosmetics industry, is seeking 15 redundancies at its factory in Tourmakeady.

The firm employs 56 workers, six of whom are part-timers.

Plant manager Bernd Sproll has blamed poor sales, a competitive world market and the loss of a contract with a US company for the layoffs.
