GARDAÍ TRYING to identify the body of a man found in a wood in Connemara almost six years ago believe they may have made a breakthrough.
Efforts are now being made to confirm that the body is that of a missing German who matches the description of the man found.
DNA and dental records are now being matched and the man leading the investigation, Clifden Supt Tony O’Donnell, is hopeful a breakthrough has finally been achieved. “We need to compare DNA and other data but there is a strong chance that the body is that of a German who has been missing.
“It may be some time yet before we can make a positive identification but we are hopeful,” said Supt O’Donnell.
The breakthrough comes after a global search to identify the man whose body has been in the morgue at University College Hospital in Galway since it was found on December 8th, 2006, by a group hunting wildlife.
