Aston Villa winger David Ginola is considering legal action against the club over what he views as defamatory remarks about his physique made last year.
The 34-year-old French former Paris Saint Germain, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur player is still upset about comments made by manager John Gregory.
In December 2000, Gregory accused Ginola of "carrying a bit of timber" in a reference to his weight.
A report in today's Daily Mirrorclaims Cherie Blair, the barrister wife of the British prime minister, has been contacted about the case.
Gordon Taylor, chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), confirmed that Blair, an expert in employment law, had contacted him.
"David is not happy with Aston Villa and the comments made by the manager," Taylor said.
"He feels they affected him and his family and in any other job such comments would be viewed as harassment. So he has instructed his lawyers to look into it for him."
Taylor has already been in touch with Gregory and chairman Doug Ellis in an attempt to resolve the matter.
But Gregory told Taylor he was entitled to do as he wished with his own players.
