A 10-year-old girl who has died nearly two weeks after she fell from a bicycle in Cork has been named as Mary Connors of Carbery, Co Kildare. Olivia Kelleherreports.
She sustained serious head injuries after she lost control of her bike and struck a wall.
The accident happened on September 2nd when Mary and her family were visiting relatives in Dublin Hill on the north side of Cork city.
The girl had gone out for a cycle and hit a wall near the bridge at Old Mallow Road.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene and she was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.
The girl was described as critical and her family gathered at her bedside in the intensive care unit.
No other vehicle was involved in the accident. At the time, the Garda urged members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Locals offered prayers at Masses in the area in the hope that the girl would make a recovery but she died from her injuries on Thursday.
Her parents, Ned and Margaret Connors, were at her bedside at the time.
