A 15-year-old Moldovian girl who was featured on a missing child website has been found on the day the website was launched.
Ms Madelina Rosu went missing last April and was found today in Dublin Port by gardaí from the immigration bureau.
The new website aimed at finding missing children was launched today at Garda headquarters in Phoenix park today, by the Minister for Justice, Mr McDowell and the Garda Commissioner, Mr Noel conroy.
The website - www.missingkids.ie - uses age-progression software to show how those who have been missing long-term might appear now.
They include images of Ms Mary Boyle, who was almost seven years old when she disappeared in Co Donegal in 1977, and Mr Philip Cairns who went missing while walking back to school in Dublin in 1986, aged 13.
The Missing Children's Website has been introduced with the help of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children - www.missingkids.comand Computer Associates ( www.ca.com) who have provided the software and technology support.
The Irish site will be linked to a global network of other national sites where over 3,000 children's cases are posted.
Gardaí say this easy worldwide access makes the missing Children's website one of the most effective tools for the recovery of missing children.
The technology used on the site includes a language translator and age progression techniques that have been successful in identifying and retrieving children years after their disappearance.
