An eight-year-old girl has been injured during a night of rioting in north Belfast.

An eight-year-old girl has been injured during a night of rioting in north Belfast.

The girl suffered cuts from broken glass to her face when the car she was in was attacked by rioters on the Whitewell Road.

Her three-year-old sister who was in the car with their parents was said to have been very shocked in the incident.

In a series of disturbances in Belfast, rioters threw petrol bombs on to the M2 motorway from the Longlands Estate.

Earlier, a petrol bomb was thrown at a house in Serpentine Gardens and windows in another house in Merston Gardens were broken and a car parked outside damaged.

No injuries were reported after the petrol bomb attacks and one man was arrested following the disturbances.
