A 12-year-old girl told a Central Criminal Court jury that she was raped several times over a two-year period by her teenage uncle. She said the first time it happened he brought her up a lane way, put her lying on the ground, got her to pull down her clothes, and assaulted her.

Her now 22-year-old uncle pleads not guilty to 27 charges of sexual abuse, nine charges of ra ping her, nine charges of having unlawful carnal knowledge of her and nine charges of sexually assaulting her, from 1995 to 1997.

Dr Elizabeth Walsh of the South Eastern Health Board told Ms Miriam Reynolds SC, prosecuting, that her findings after examining the girl were compatible with blunt force penetration of the vaginal area. Her findings were not consistent with a cycling or similar injury.

Dr Walsh agreed with Mr Denis Vaughan Buckley SC, defending, that her report said her fin dings "raised possible concern of child sexual abuse".

The girl told Ms Reynolds she told nobody at the time of the al leged abuse. She felt frightened and her uncle said she was not to tell anyone. She could not remember how many times he abused her in the house but thought it happened nine or 10 times in total. It stopped some months before she told her aunt, at Easter 1997.

The hearing continues before Mrs Justice McGuinness.
