Concerns raised by a golf club adjacent to Dublin's St Vincent's hospital about plans to construct an eight-storey development at the hospital seem to have been allayed following a meeting between the sides.
St Vincent's lodged a planning application for the development with Dublin City Council in May and six objections were lodged. Most were from local residents but one was lodged by a firm of architects on behalf of Elm Park Golf & Sports Club Limited on June 13th.
It said the club was concerned the new building, among other things, could overshadow the golf course. "This could cause problems for golfers playing on the holes immediately adjacent to the development," it said.
A spokesman for the hospital said yesterday its chief executive had met senior representatives of the golf club and explained the plans in detail to them. "It's our understanding their concerns were very much allayed by this meeting," he said.
Adrian McCormack, secretary/ manager of the golf club, agreed the meeting with the hospital was a positive one. "Based on that meeting it's highly probable that would be the end of the matter for ourselves," he said.
But he stressed the decision on whether or not to withdraw the club's objection to the development would ultimately be up to the board of directors of the club who will consider the matter at their next meeting at the end of this month.
The objections raised by residents also included concerns about the height of the planned development, noise, traffic, the failure to landscape after a previous development, lack of consultation with residents, and the proposed demolition of a chaplaincy building to make way for the development.
Dublin City Council has now sought additional information from the hospital in relation to its planning application and the hospital has up to six months to provide this.
The extra information sought includes a copy of any master plan it has for the St Vincent's campus.
