The beginning of the M1 at Beaumont and its environs is sure to get commuters hot under the collar, with a complex of diversions in place over the weekend to allow for the destruction of Shantalla Bridge as part of the Dublin Port Tunnel construction works.

The restrictions will be in place from 10 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Monday morning. The will resume again next weekend and for a further two weekends thereafter.

Dublin Airport is predicting one of its busiest weekends of the year with close to 200,000 people expected over the two days. The Office of the Director of Traffic at Dublin City Council are advising travellers in particular to allow extra time for journeys. Motorists using the Airport from the south and west are advised to use the M50.

Sunday may prove particularly busy with Croke Park playing host to around 50,000 fans for the All-Ireland hurling semi-final between Waterford and Clare.

Elsewhere, traffic restrictions will also be in place around Tullamore for the annual agricultural show in the grounds of Charleville Castle on Sunday.

Traffic disruption around Dun Laoghaire and Blackrock can be expected on Sunday afternoon as around 600 people are expected to march in an effort to have the Sea Baths reopened.

While the weather will be pleasantly warm for the weekend sun worshippers will be disappointed to know that clouds will filter out the rays for most of the weekend. But if you can get Monday off ... well that’s a different story. The forecasters say sunny all day. Everywhere.
