The Government is to review the conduct of referendum campaigns in the light of the lack of public interest in recent ballots.
The Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Mr Danny Wallace, announced the review yesterday, saying he was concerned about the low turnout in recent referendums.
The balanced campaigns run by referendum commissions have been criticised for their lack of impact. Mr Wallace said the Department of the Environment would now try to come up with proposals for the conduct of future campaigns.
