Two Fine Gael Oireachtas members have urged the Government to follow the lead of the British government and give taxpayers full details of where their money is spent.

Dublin South East TD Eoghan Murphy and his Seanad colleague Catherine Noone separately called yesterday for the policy announced by UK chancellor George Osborne to be introduced in Ireland.

Mr Murphy is in the process of drafting a tax transparency Bill, which he hopes to publish soon.

“Ireland should follow the UK’s lead here in bringing greater transparency to public finances and highlighting the relationship between what people pay in tax to central government and how that money is spent,” he said. Mr Murphy’s Bill is expected to be published before the Easter recess.
