The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) today spoke out against the Leinster Council's decision not to postpone Club Championship matches to allow teams enough recovery time for their next fixture.
"It is with great regret that the GPA has learned of the Leinster Council decision not to postpone Leinster Cub Championship matches in order to allow teams a sufficient period of recovery prior to fulfilling their next fixture within that competition," a statement from the GPA read today.
"It appears this decision has been made with scant regard for the physical and psychological well-being of the players involved. We believe that exposing players to such circumstances is both dangerous and disrespectful. In addition, very little consideration has been afforded to the travelling supporters of these teams."
Meanwhile Dublin manager Tommy Lyons also hit out at the Leinster Council, this time for not offering financial assistance for holiday costs. His team was looking for €20,000 from the Council, but instead, the retailer and county sponsor Arnotts stepped in with the money.
Kildare received the same news when their application to the Council was also refused.
And finally, on a busy day for the Leinster Council, it also confirmed the postponement of Sunday's provincial club championship match between Rathnew and the eventual Dublin champions if UCD and St. Vincents finish level after extra time on Saturday in the Dublin County final.
