WHO WAS THERE:MORE THAN 30 members of the Orange Order were in attendance at the opening of the Battle of the Boyne visitor centre, including former grand master Rev Martin Smyth and current Deputy Grand Master Edward Stevenson.

Other members present included Director of Services, Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, David Hume; Deputy Grand Secretary, Robert Abernethy; Assistant Grand Master, Rev Alistair Smyth; Community Education Officer, David Scott; and Deputy District Master of the Lower Iveagh District, Jonathan Mattison.

The First Minister's son, Ian Paisley Jr MLA, was present along with other members of the Democratic Unionist Party including chief executive Alan Ewart and special adviser Timothy Johnston.

Nobel Prize winner John Hume was joined by SDLP colleagues Alistair McDonnell, Alex Attwood, Dominic Bradley and Declan O'Loan, and Progressive Unionist Party leader Dawn Purvis.

Many of the Taoiseach's relatives attended, including his grandsons, Rocco and Jay. Senator Tony Kett arrived with Bertie Ahern in the Taoiseach's car.

Cabinet Ministers included Micheál Martin, Brian Lenihan, Mary Hanafin, Noel Dempsey, Dermot Ahern, Éamon Ó Cuív and Martin Cullen.

Other members of the Oireachtas included Brendan Smith, Conor Lenihan, Pat Carey, Dick Roche, Noel Ahern, Sean Haughey, Trevor Sargent, Dr Martin Mansergh, Noel Treacy, Michael Kennedy, Seamus Kirk, Fergus O'Dowd, Joan Burton, Cyprian Brady, Senators Eoghan Harris, Cecilia Keaveney and Joe O'Reilly.

The Garda Síochána were represented by Deputy Commissioner Martin Callanan, Assistant Commissioner Dermot Jennings, Chief Superintendent Pat McGee and Superintendent Gerry Smith.

Also in attendance were Lord and Lady Mountcharles who live "just up-river" at Slane Castle.
