If Irish rather than Chinese granite had been used in the £1.5 million Henry Street resurfacing project it would have avoided many problems, according to the Wicklow TD, Mr Dick Roche (FF). This follows the discovery of the deadly long-horned beetle in a recent granite consignment.
He said he had warned Dublin Corporation it would be better to use Wicklow granite in the project but this had fallen on deaf ears and all consignments now had to be fumigated to prevent any spread of the beetle to Irish forests.
