LARISSA - A stretch of Greece's national highway yesterday looked more like a squatter camp, with farmers huddled under makeshift tents strung between tractors or handing out bread and feta cheese to comrades.
Farmers began blocking roads and railways 11 days ago to press economic demands in a showdown with the socialist government. The protests have frozen transport around Greece, traffic across the Bulgarian and Turkish borders has ceased, and Greek narkets are running out of produce as Christmas approaches.
