The Green Party has called for the resignation of Environment Minister Mr Dempsey, saying new Irish figures indicated greenhouse gas emissions had "soared by more than 10 per cent" in the past year.
Green Party councillor Mr Ciaran Cuffe said the Government's commitment to building new roads was contributing to climate change. He said Ireland was rapidly increasing its contribution to climate change despite talks in Bonn. "Minister Dempsey, with his mantra of roads, roads and more roads, with public transport only receiving the crumbs of the transport cake, is simply making matters worse." He said Ireland needed to focus on public transport, alternative energy and an energy conservation programme.
