Maurice Greene will not compete at the Goodwill Games because of injury, the world and Olympic 100 metres champion confirmed today.

"When I'm on the track I don't give excuses. I always give 100 percent and I don't feel I'll be able to do that at the Goodwill Games," Greene said in a statement released by his agent Emanuel Hudson from Irvine, California.

The statement said that the injury Greene sustained in his left leg while holding off fellow American Tim Montgomery to win his third consecutive world 100 metres title at Edmonton on August 5th had not healed properly.

His doctor told him that if he ran in Brisbane he would risk further damaging the leg.
